Number Line
Print
Walter and I are creating a number line. I took bulletin board paper and folded it in half two times lengthwise. So, basically there are 4 columns.

We only wrote on the first column, and numbers 1-25. What I did to make sure they all fit and the numbers as evenly spaces as we could-
1. I wrote 25 at the top, 1 at the bottom.
2. Then I measured halfway down the column and wrote 13 in pencil.
3. Then I measured half the distance from the 1 to 13 and wrote a 6 in pencil and did the same thing between 13 and 25 and wrote 19 at the midway point.
4. I then lightly wrote the numbers in pencil and had Walter then write the numbers in marker tracing the already written numbers.

Then, we took some cards (it was the closest pile of objects to where we were working)- and we selected a few numbers from our number line and counted that amount of cards.

He was able to physically see that 25 was a larger number than 13, and that 3 was a smaller number.

The next step planned is to repeat this step, but with numbers 26-50 and another day repeat it with 51-75 and then finally 76-100.
I will leave the four columns together until we complete the number line.
Then what I plan on doing is cutting the columns, and pasting it together to have one gigantic and long number line. Right now, I will spend more time on the first 25 numbers. We can use the number line and show addition and subtraction.
