| Ask Them Why |

Another thing I do with Walter and Carrie is ask questions. Do you get tired of hearing your kids ask "why" so much. Yes, I do.
But I also ask them why. And sometimes I get answers that intrigue me. I took them to the zoo the other day. We saw a Tiger Lizard. I asked them why they thought it was called a Tiger Lizard. My 5 year old plainly says, "Because it looks like a tiger." And that was a pretty good answer. But I probed further. But how does it look like a tiger?
Aha! Now THAT got him thinking, and observing.
And he could explain, "because it has stripes" and right there my 5 year old was teaching my 3 year old.
Take the time to look around and observe things around you. And ask them why.
Why do you need to wear a seatbelt?
Why is the stove dangerous for kids?
Why do birds have beaks instead of lips?
You can even use this when disciplining your child.
Why do you think I took the toy away?
Why are we leaving the playground? |
